Synonyms Interleukin-6; B Cell Stimulatory Factor 2; BSF-2; CTL Differentiation Factor; CDF; Interferon β2; IFN-β2
Product Type Protein
Properties
Source/Host CHO cells
Sequence

The extracellular domain of human IL-6 (aa 30-212) is fused to the N-terminus of the Fc region of a mutant human IgG1.

Crossreactivity Human
Biological Activity

Shows the biological function of the IL-6 moiety and exerts a prolonged circulating half-life caused by the modified Fc domain.

MW ~40-60kDa
Purity ≥98% (SDS-PAGE)
Endotoxin Content <1EU/mg protein (LAL test; Lonza).
Reconstitution Reconstitute in 50µl sterile water.
Add 1X PBS to the desired protein concentration.
Formulation Lyophilized from 0.2μm-filtered solution in PBS.
Protein Negative Control

Fc (human) IgG1 Control (rec.) (non-lytic)

Other Product Data

Non-lytic: Acts as a long lasting fusion protein which only binds to the receptor. Mutations to the complement (C1q) and FcgR I binding sites of the IgGs Fc fragment render the fusion proteins incapable of antibody directed cytotoxicity (ADCC) and complement directed cytotoxicity (CDC).

Description

Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic α-helical cytokine that plays important roles in acute phase reactions, inflammation, hematopoiesis, bone metabolism and cancer progression. IL-6 activity is essential for the transition from acute inflammation to either acquired immunity or chronic inflammatory disease. It is secreted by multiple cell types as a 22kDa-28kDa phosphorylated and variably glycosylated molecule. IL-6 induces signaling through a cell surface heterodimeric receptor complex composed of a ligand binding subunit (IL-6R) and a signal transducing subunit (gp130). IL-6 is a key factor for the growth of plasma cells.
